Transformational Odyssey

The Hendrix College Comprehensive Campaign successfully
concluded with commitments totaling $101,374,411.
Witzleben/Associates, retained as counsel mid-campaign,
recommended increasing what started as a $65 million
campaign after a mid-campaign feasibility study to a $100
million campaign.

The Campaign’s success was built on a vision of transformation.
The campaign was bigger than a set of tactical initiatives. It
was about a new Hendrix that has been elevated on all fronts.
What separates the Hendrix campaign from others is adherence to a true vision that
was not just semantic.

The entrepreneurial spirit of the Board of Trustees to take risks at the outset to create
a financial model to support Odyssey helped kick-start a signature program
instrumental to Hendrix’s stunning enrollment and retention successes. The support of
Odyssey further established a context in which donors became highly motivated to make
philanthropic investments, including a dozen Odyssey professorships and Odyssey
endowments to support student experiences.

The openings of the Wellness & Athletic Center and the Student Life & Technology
Center and the development of the Hendrix Village, a bold example of new campus
urbanism, have dramatically changed the campus and reflect the impact of an
ambitious campus master plan, also reflective of the vision and tenacity of the President
and Board of Trustees.

The campaign connected in important ways to other programs designed to advance
the strategic vision, including the target cities program, the development of the
Alumni Odyssey College, and increased engagement of alumni in volunteer roles such
as student recruitment and establishment of Odyssey internships, volunteer
experiences, and travel learning opportunities.
